Formerly titled, Coffee with the Principal, R.E.A.D. was established in 2016 as a recognition ceremony of elected middle school students who’ve been selected by the principals of their schools for their growth in independent reading skills and comprehension.
This monthly event first took place at the Dash Point Starbucks and was designed to bring the top school administration together with parents, students, and others in the community to celebrate students’ achievements in a warm, community setting. The event was further supported by Communities in Schools.
During R.E.A.D. each student gets the chance to discuss what they’re currently reading, what they enjoy about reading, and what they’ve learned from reading, while also learning how to interact with others in a social setting.
